Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Fishing

I don't know if you are certified or not, but when I was down there we dove a shipwreck right out of Punta Cana and then took a bus down to La Ramona another day and did a couple of dives down there. It was pretty awesome. I would HIGHLY recommend it. Especially La Ramona. The Caribbean down there was just gorgeous. Snorkeling down there could also be very good.

As far as fishing......I didn't have the money, but it was strongly recommended that we didn't go, by the people at the hotel, who said there were very few fish to be caught. That was in mid-March though, so there is nothing saying it couldn't be good now.

Other than that, have fun, and take it easy on the Mamajuanas! They'll sneak up on ya!

I have been down there twice in the last 3 years and it is a awesome place to go!! I have never done any scuba diving but did alot of snorkeling the first year. That year we were on the carribean side and the water was so calm we could snorkel right in front of our resort. We spent most the day right on the beach. Last year we were more on the atlantic side and it was pretty rough and windy. Still a great time but not as much time spent on the beach.

As far as fishing that is up to you. Me and my son went last year and not that great of fishing. 3 of our 6 people on our boat got sick including my son and i felt like [PoorWordUsage] to but didnt get sick. You really need to be on the true atlantic side for good fishing. I would suggest going on the tour up the mountain to see there culture and how they live and make a living. You will have a great time no matter what you do!!! Bring me back some cigars!!

I went fishing while I was down there. We fished for a half day. They explained that if we hooked a fish they would set the hook and then hand you the rod to reel. We never hooked a fish so I didn't even touch a rod or do anything related to fishing besides drink beer and watch the rods. The other fishermen only spoke German, and the crew didn't speak english. I still had fun, the Germans were very rude so I went up top by the top and drank beer with the captain as the Germans got extreamly sea sick. Although the captain didn't speak much english we shared an appreciation for the humor in watching the fat old German men in their man thongs hurling over the edge of the boat.

Haven't been there, but went to Costa Rica last year. We spent a morning on a charter, trolled and trolled and didn't get a hit. I requested the captain let us bottom fish some humps or reefs so the non-fishermen with me could catch something. He said there are no humps or reefs to try.

Then next day, we used the same service to go snorkeling... at a reef...

While underwater, I saw a fish get hooked and reeled in. I followed it over to boat and popped up to see who caught it. It was our charter captain. I was displeased.

Ended up shorefishing and caught one small clown hawkfish and one small seabass or grouper that I haven't been able to identify.

Hope you have better success!

WHere are you staying? We stayed at the bavarro princess resort. LOVED IT! I would go back in a minute. We did a snorkeling deal that we got to drive these mini speed boats out to the reef... THAT WAS A BLAST! you felt like you were flying with a small 9.9 or 15 Hp motor on the 6FT boat.

We stayed at Ocean Blue, was real nice. We fished with "Gone Fish'in" and chartered the boat for the five of us guys all day. They supplied all the refreshments and sandwiches. We caught 7 dorados, 1 sailfish and 1 bonito. Had a 20 ft. plus whale shark swim withing 10 yards of the boat and also seen several hump back whales.
