Chuck-B
The last 2 days I have been out chasing around coveys of huns and they are everywhere. I have seen about 50 in the 2 days. Hope they survive the winter
Arago
I don't think I've seen a Hun in 5 years! We always used to see a covey when out rooster hunting. I'd been thinking they were all gone! What part of the state did you see them?
Chuck-B
Dodge county area, southeast mn
mitch
I've seen at least one covey for the last 3 years. And this years I've seen 20-30 birds. Hopefully they continue to make a comeback.

cbrooks
Kick up a few late season bow right before Christmas just 25 miles southwest of Grand Forks. Pheasant and grouse had a good year for North Dakota last year.
scsavre
I saw hundreds of them in North Dakota this year. Shot quite a few too. Once there is a decent amount of snow on the ground, it seems they become very easy to find. They will burrow down in the snow in snowed over bean fields etc, right near the roads. Off coarse it has to be in an area that has Huns. I havent seen any in MN yet this year. Brooks, did you get a gun?
cbrooks
]Brooks, did you get a gun? Not yet. I'll wait a coouple months. Best time to find deals. Hopefully the gun I'm looking at goes on sale but if it doesn't I'll probably get it anyway. No use in buying a gun quit yet.
R. Miller
SC can I ask you what part of the state(ND) you had luk on the huns? I'd love to get my dog on some next Fall. Thought about even planning a MT trip.
brittman
Huns do fine in winter. What hurts hun populations the most is cool, wet weather during nesting and brood season. They seemed to be very susceptible to poor weather compared to most other game birds. Arid spring and a pair will bring about a dozen young into hunting season. scsavre
Sorry for the delayed response. I was hunting about 20 miles from Harvey ND. I guess that is central ND. south of Minot, north of Bismark. I wish there was more Pheasants there this year. A lot of Huns and Grouse though. Like I said, I say few while walking, but tons of them while driving. lovebigbluegills
I saw a covey of about 10-12 yesterday about halfway between Thief River Falls and Grand Forks. Those were the first I've seen in a couple years. I wish the numbers would rebound to what they were in this area 20 years ago.
