Does this look factory original? - Old Eska-mo Auger

So I have this old Eska-mo auger. I have posted about it recently and seem to still be having challenges. Does anybody know if this hose and filter set-up looks factory. It doesn't seem to fit the machine very well. The hose appears to kink a bit before heading into the carb (did not seem to effect it last season). It just look wrong. Anybody know? Did these come with a filter from the factory or did the hose go right fromt he tank to the carb?

first i doubt that is factory, second that lack of clamps on the hoses at the tank, filter (both ends) and where it goes into the engine would also tell me someone has replaced them. I would replace it all, the filters are easy to find at any parts house, same with the hose. I would add clamps to ensure that it is not sucking air. The hoses will break down over time and by the yellowing of the filter, it appears that the gas has been sitting in the system over non use times. you can replace the whole works for under 15 bucks i would guess.

Thanks, yes I do plan to replace that stuff at this point. I think I phrased my question poorly. I am certain this is not same hose and filter that would have come on the new machine. What I mean to ask is....Is this set-up correct. I did notice I had gas leaking from the hoses, and figured that no clamps was the main problem. I wish I could find a picture of one online to show how it is supposed to be set-up. Maybe someone has one they know is right?

Let me try to focus my question down even more. Should this machine have a filter? I know it doesn't "hurt" to have one, but honestly if I don't need it, I want to simply and cut all that extra hose out of the equation. I have been told a filter is not as needed on a two cyle since the filter will simply get clogged with oil anyhow. Thoughts? I just want to make sure I don't mess things up.

No, that is not factory. No, that is an improper set-up. That is aftermarket automotive hose and a general in-line fuel filter. Get rid of the hose and use some of the newer types of small engine fuel line...there are a couple good name brand ones out there. No, you don't need a filter...but from the looks of it, I'd clean out that tank good and make sure it's not full of crud, which was probably why the filter was slapped on in the first place. that doesn't even look like the correct tank to me.

I feel my age when I look at your picture and remember when that was a state of the art ice auger.

No, this auger engine did not use a filter on the outside of the fuel tank. Look in the tank. There should be a screen over the hole where the hose bib is located in the tank. If there is none, don't worry about it. Remove the tank, and clean good. Make sure that your fuel can is clean and the fuel is new. Go to a small engine shop and get a piece of quarter inch fuel line. This line will fit the fuel bibs without the need for clamps. When you put the new line on, put it on the tank and then trial fit to the carb to make sure the line does not kink when installed on the carb. The engine on this auger is the same one that is used on the old Jiffy 30 auger. Any good small engine shop in your area will have parts.
