Electric Auger?

Finlander

Recommended Posts

Tired of pulling the starter cord, tired of smoke, tired of gas, and tired of the auger not staying running after finally starting!

Doctor told me to stay away from all smoke due to cartoid artery blockage going to my noggin. So anybody have any input about electric augers? blush

I bought an electric auger for the very reasons you listed( strikemaster elctra lazer), and have been very happy with my purchase. I have very limited time on the ice and having an electric auger ensures that I am fishing more.

The most holes I drilled in one day was around 25, but it still could have done twice that if needed.

A good friend just bought a SM electric. He says its slow but he loves it. I'm thinking if I didn't have an auger that thats what I would get. Opening the house and a few tip ups holes is all I ever need to do.

I also own a SM electric auger and think its a good buy. I, unlike the other poster can only get about 20-25 holes MAX with ice around 12-18 inches thick though I don't do alot of run and gun fishing. But don't let that stop you if you do. You can run it off your ATV or car battery (easier said then done I know). I bought a back up battery that I've used when mine has died. I wish they made it easy to swap out (its not that hard but its a tight fit getting back in the holder). I love the easy start and no gas fumes or mixing, just grab your auger and go. My only complaint with this auger is the plastic (some sort of composit I'm sure) handles that can crack or brake if dropped. And unlike what SM put out about placing your augers in a safe place, come on-its ice fishing and things fall and there handles should be able to handle a fall.

Good aguer with great costumer support and one easy call was placed to get my handle fixed. And YES-I would buy an electric auger again, and more then likely it would be a SM.

I just bought a electric SM last year. I think it cuts just as fast as my gas one. I will probably never go back to a gas one after owning this one. I was skeptical at 1st but after talking with a reliable source I rolled the dice and bought it. I really cant say anything bad about it. It is perfect for the wheel house.

I picked up the SM electric last year when my ancient gas auger croaked.

Love it! Many options for power - 25 holes is a bit of a stretch but not too far off. SMe battery as vex/marcum.

Raced a jiffy and pounded it into the dirt - gas auger kept stalling lol

The ice gator is slick - electric has so many positives only negative is you should plan to have extra power handy just in case!

I got 45 holes through 20 inches of ice with my electric. On a normal day I drill maybe 15 holes. That's more then enough for me.

Plus the biggest advantage is throwing it in reverse to clean the holes out. That's my favorite part.

I have no expierence with electic except last year on BE and I watched a group of guys try to drill holes with one and adventually left my flip-up and grabbed my Stingray and helped them out. I do not know what their issue was, I saw them hook it up to their vehicle and it still turned slow. That being said, I hear nothing bad about electrics except for the amount of holes they can drill in one outing. I cannot quite get myself to go electric yet but if I had a wheel house I would seriously consider it when the time comes. Have you looked into the the Jiffy propane powered auger yet. I think if $ was not an issue I would get one of those. I am not sure if they have been properly field tested yet by the masses but I think I would love it. Good luck searching.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
