Does anyone have the trapper or trapper II? I'm looking for a light mobile one man for when i'm by myself. Just looking for input from owners of this house. I have a 2 man guide so i dont want anything bigger or heavy. it will be mainly my early and late ice house for walking out. i'll use the guide when its drivin time. thanks.

Fished in my trapper for the first time tonight. Love it. Its basically a Scout without a seat. I was concerned the cooler chair wasnt gonna cut it, but its WAY more comfy than the seats in my Nannok!!! Sat in it for about 4.5 hrs and back never hurt at all. Very light without the seat brackets and seat as well.

I just purchased a clam kenia and absoluively love it. It has been upgraded from last years model, its now 35 inches wide, has a zippered entry door and has a nice wide padded bench seat. The sled has also been changed and has a molded accessory tray including a beverage holder! Bought it at FF an couple of weeks ago for 179.99 so it didn't break the bank. Weighs in at 49 lbs so its nice and light, no poles to extend just flip it and fish!

the only thing to change on the kenia was the addition of the door. it has always been 35 inches wide and had the bench seat and the tray with drink holder. I suggested to the clam rep that I talked to at the 2009 ice fishing show that they add a door. also last year on here there was a thread about the kenia and not having the door. It appears that clam listened to what people had to say and made the change. I have a first year one with out the door and emailed clam about a replacement tent with the door. they said it would not be sold as a replacement this year but starting next year it would be offered.

Just bought a Clam 1-man off an auction site. I bought it for the same purpose you want it for, early/late ice and portability.

This one is the older style without a door.

All I can say is I wish I would have purchased it earlier!

It makes me re-think what I need to take with Ice fishing.

Now I take 1, maybe 2 rods at most, Little Buddy Heater(works wonders) I was out fishing Wednesday morning when it around 0 and was sweating my Ar$$ off, Vexilar and a pocket box full of jigs.

Still have my Eskimo Quick Flip II. but I see myself using them each about equal amounts of time.

I bought the Trapper II at the ice show last Friday. I put it together and was a little disappointed. I had a bad batch of Nylon Lock Nuts so I could not get it all together. Clam sent me some within a day. The seat was also less than stellar. Out of the box the leg did not fold down completely but once I adjusted the spring release I got it folded. The other thing I noticed is the front edge of the sled is higher than the back leg of the chair is long. So the seat was tipped back. The seat frame itself was at 90 degree angles but since the front was higher the back leg tipped in and caused about an 80 degree angle. I ended up putting a 1x3x12 under the leg and the seat is now level.

I am looking forward to using it. It is nice and light and the seat is comfy. For the price I paid at the show I can't beat it.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
