fishlips
Howdy ~We are having a laminate floor installed next week and I'm worried about how to handle the upright piano that we have. The piano is very heavy (600+ lbs?) and has 4 small, steel rollers/wheels on the bottom. The plan at present is to put down the laminate and then lift the piano onto 'magic movers'. The piano will be left permanently on the magic movers, but I'm worried that over the course of time, the heavy piano will form a dent in the magic mover and eventually into the laminate floor. Any advice would be appreciated.
Surface Tension
Use you magic mover just make sure the floor is perfectly clean or else it'll scratch. Get someone at each leg and lift as you slide it. Your not going to lift it off the ground just taking some weight off the leg to make it slide easier. With that much weight motion, if one leg snags up it can do a lot of damage to the leg. Caster cups are made for storing pianos on wood floor. fishlips
Thanks, ST ~My thought was to use the magic slider permanently, but probably not a good idea as the magic sliders are not very thick. The back of the magic slider package says that it can be used for permanent applications, but the front of the package says 'not for permanent applications'....go figure. You say they make casters specifically for pianos? Haven't found them so far but I'll keep looking.
Surface Tension
You could probably get by with regular coasters to, really anything to distribute the weight. The casters cups are made for the heavy stuff with wheels(casters) you can find them wherever they sell pianos. Edit: I found a picture of one.
