First time hunting fresh snow.

Recommended Posts

I have read about it for years but never had a chance to hunt the morning after a snow storm until now. Rob (Uplander), Shea and myself were lucky enough to find ourselves in 8 to 10 inches of fresh snow Saturday morning. I was amazed when we pulled up to the first field and the ditches were filled to capacity with drifted snow. The wind had piled up the snow waist deep along the shelter belts and fence lines forcing the roosters into deep cover. We spent the next 6 hours trudging through the thickest mess of trees, cattails, and snow imaginable. The pay off was great with 6 late season roosters bagged. It was one of the best days I've had out in the field. We had four setters and a farm dog hunting and all were part of the action.

Shoot a rooster save two hens. We have seen many times the hens do the work of digging out the food and the the rooster comes over and drives her off it and eats it himself. Good work on your late season hunt. You usually earn every rooster you get this time of year.
