VIRUS ALERT

I wanted to warn everyone that I just received an email labeled; rick@FM it said it was regarding my bill, I didn't open it because I figured it has a virus attached. Just thought I'd pass it along.

I supposedly got one from Rick a couple of weeks ago with an exe file attached. I'm sure it was a virus also.

I get the same virus in e-mail from all kinds of people.

Any time you post an email address on the web you are vulnerable to someone using it to send a virus. My office email is posted on my agency's HSOforum and get about four messages per week that a message I sent to someone I never heard of could not be delivered because there was a virus in the attachment. The IT eggheads are still trying to find a defense for this sort of mischief.

The best way to avoid is of course to not post your email unless there is a short term need.

If you do want to correspond with someone from a forum like this create a new mailbox, then after you have established contact by email ask then to switch to your regular box and cancel the short term. I can do this because I get nine addresses with my basic service but only use three on a regular basis.

Didn't mean to accuse you Rick or FM, just stating that I got one like that along with many other ones from different people.

Most of these virus's steal your email addy from someone elses email address book. Then ghosts it as the sender for the email. I've had all sorts of stuff bounce back to be over the past couple of years that I never sent to people I've never heard off. Even though my machine is clean.

More the rule than the exception these days.
