CLARK37
Can't make it to the Dakotas this year, but am thinking about heading to the Marshall area for pheasants this weekend. Does anyone have any insight on the birds out there? Not sure where to go, but will be looking for public land. I have seen a list of public land on the net but am looking to see where you guys/girls have seen high numbers. Also need a dog friendly hotel/motel if you have any places you know of. Thanks!!! daylate
Birds are a little spotty. This area had a ton of snow last winter as well as major hail this spring and summer. I did see some birds, but be prepared to work for them.
grab the net
+1 - Bird numbers are slightly down but with a good dog and some perseverance you can put some birds in your vest. Tons of WMA's and WPA's out that way, so no shortage of places to hunt. Red willows and edges next to picked or worked corn fields are good places to start. Let us know how you do. 123fish
Red willows as mentioned above and cattails sloughs are going to be the main holding areas with the colder weather coming. A lot of birds are in these places already. Might be able to walk some sloughs by the weekend but be careful for sure.

RayG
Bird numbers seem to be a little higher in Lincoln County which is one county further west.

CRAZYEYES
We were out around slayton and Ivanhoe for three days last week and we got some birds but they're way down this year from a few years ago. Also been a little further north around canby and madison a few times and same deal around there. If you walk your rear off you can still get a few on the public but it helps tp have some good private stuff. Best advise is get some waders until the catails freeze hard and get down in the thick stuff, we ran a lot of birds right out into the water before they wanted to jump.
