Coyotes!

I took the whole day off. Got out to the stand at dawn and stayed til dusk. Had the deer decoy out and everything. Made scent trails, had fresh deer sign all around, active scrapes within 30 yards east and west of the stand, a midday wind shift, and nothing. Not a twig snap, snort, or flag. Walking back to the car, suddenly a chorus of yikes and yips. The coyotes got out just a little earlier than I did. I hunt the base of a peninsula approx 1/2 mile wide and 2 miles long. My sense is that pack moved every deer out and onto the mainland and I didn't stand a chance. Have unscientifically and casually ovserved what I felt was game movement when wolves moved into an area but never coyotes before. I'm curious, does anyone else feel that coyotes can spook the herd out of a territory?

Where I hunt in southern MN for gun season there are coyotes all over the place, and deer too. I wouldn't worry about them chasing them away forever. They could probably chase them out for a while though. The way I figure it I think a pack of coyotes would have a hard time with a full grown deer, a smaller deer might be different.
