Storing reels

midex717

Question

Gents!

I'm curious if anyone stores their rods & reels, and crank baits in their unheated garage over the winter. Does the cold affect the reels in any way, and is the cold harmful to cranks, and large musky lures? Due to storage constraints I may need to keep my gear in the garage this winter.

Thanks for any input!!!

I have done that with mine for a few years now and haven't had a problem. I usually respool line in the spring too. For reels I doubt it is a problem at all, I am more concerned about the rods.

I think super hot is probably worse than super cold, but I think 70 degrees with 70% humidity is probably the best.

I have been doing this for over 20 years and never did anything with any of my reels. No loosening drags or nothing. Never had a reel go bad from it. I keep all my tackle in my boat in the winter and only make sure everything is closed tight. Moisture is the issue and you shouldnt have any in a unheated garage unless your roof leaks. wink
