finally - the real reason!

Check this out from the Lily the Black Bear discussion page: under the topic of "Contactin the DNR" - Admin posts this:

Another suggestion to ask about is this:

Why can't they do like they (the MN DNR) did in 1991 and close the research area from hunting. Might it be better to just close the main study area to bear hunting? That way, hunters would not have to worry about making mistakes and shooting... radio-collared bears in the area where these bears spend most of their time. The main study area is Eagles Nest Township and more broadly the area between the cities of Ely and Tower. I would be curious to know why they opened it back up to hunting. Why didn't they just leave it closed?

And another point, much of the world’s information about black bear behavior and ecology comes from this research project and that is education around the world. If we continue to lose bears then the research data can not expand like it should be. When you look up information on the internet, now often do you find Dr. Roger's name? He has done tremendous research and it has been valuable research.

so now we know their actual intent - they want to close down that whole area to hunting.

According to my research, limited to one google search, there are 29.9 square miles in eagles nest township alone. They are now asking for not only Eagles Nest Township, but all of the land between Tower and Ely to be off limits to hunters. Just like the gun grab crowd, you give them an inch, they will try to take a mile. As the study expands, so will the demands for land, hunt restrictions.

Lynn Rogers and WRI would like to restrict all of these land owners from hunting bears on their property, along with hundreds of acres of county and state forest land that is open to public hunting. What's more, they are asking for all land between Ely, MN and Tower, MN. That is around 20 miles off of Hwy 169, spanning across areas 31 and 25. GREED, Lack of respect for property owners, hunters, and community members in the area. No thought to the rights of people living in and around the area he chooses to study bears in.

I urge everyone to consider writing to your MN legislaters and DNR officials to help block this land grab and assault on our hunting rights! Helpfull links for contacting Legislators and DNR reps can be found on the Lily page at:

Listen to the suggested lines of attack from the Lily sight and ask yourself if you want these people setting the precident in MN hunting regulations??

"Ask him how people can feel safe vacationing and hiking in Minnesota during September and early October...Tell him that you hope to visit there one day and the thought of camouflaged hunters shooting high-powered rifles through leaves at shadowy forms that might or might not be a bear concerns you greatly.

Ask him why the rights of vacationers, residents, and the hundreds of thousands of people who want to learn about bears are not being taken into consideration?"

check out the "Lily" updates from the last few days. They've posted emails from DNR Biologist Dave Garshelis regarding wounding loss data - and pretty much gave Lynn Rogers a swift kick you know where. The guy has been caught lying and exaggerating so many times, I think it's time he got his walking papers! Pull the permit is what I'm saying......
