creepworm
What does everyone think? Is it worth it? I am thinking if I can find a sheltered smaller pothole I should be able to do alright. I guess I will find out real quick if it is or not.
Farley
I would not go if I had to take out a boat. Just wading in a smaller pothole I could do. Good Luck.
CrappieAttitude
I'm heading out in the morning. Typically me best hunts have been had on the worst weather conditions. Just make sure you are set up with your back to the wind and you should be fine. Go get em...CA
lawdog
I remember one time I tried to shoot a teal that buzzed me going with this kind of wind. Holy smokes I bet I was three feet behind that duck. The birds can and will move on windy days but its really ugly out there. Safety first, as Farley mentioned boating in this is not a good idea. If you can get to a spot safely though, you might have some shooting...
creepworm
Well on my way to the place I was going to hunt I came across a small to medium sized pothole that was loaded with divers. I decided to jump shoot them and then set out decoys. After jumping them they would just circle and come right back in. Ended up with 5 Ringbills and one Redhead. That part was good but I filled the waders to the point no more water could fit in them. The way out to get the ducks wasn't bad but on the way back to shore I was heading into the waves and they made short work of the inside of my waders. The worst part of it is my phone was in my pocket of my pants.Final verdict, probably wasn't worth it. Although some thought ahead of time (leaving the phone in the truck) and it would have been awesome.
wetaline
Try putting your phone in a small ziplock bag. You can still make a emergency call with the phone in the bag if need be.
Stringerless!
Have you heard of the rice trick ? Open the phone and take the battery out and put it in a tupperware full of minute rice. After a few days the rice wicks all the moisture out of it. My teenagers do it all the time . I ALMOST took the jon boat and the push pole to Carlos. Glad I didn't. I can't help but have visions of ducks falling out of the sky like leaves but I can't see them fighting a wind to move either. Hoping they wait till the northwest wind on Thursday
creepworm
Ya, the ducks I jumped really did not want to move in the wind either, they just circled the edge of the pond and came right back in.I usually leave the phone in the truck seeing I don't even get service in rural South Dakota. Just forgot the one time I fill my waders. The minute rice is a great idea, I will have to try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Lunker
I had an exciting morning last year in 40+mph winds. The ducks would either be moving at lightspeed if they were with the wind or like flying through peanut butter into the wind. Needless to say we didn't shoot well that day but I will definitley consider hunting windy conditions after that morning. I wouldn't take a boat out though. bemidjibasser
you need a bigger boat if you wouldn't consider going out in wind like this...
