Benelli M1 hanging up

Recommended Posts

My 10 year old super 90 is hanging up after discharge. I will shoot 10-20 rounds fine, but then the action begins to slow and eventually not cycle. The gun is clean. I have stripped it completely and have concluded the problem is in the inertia stock spring. It is either weak or dirty. Can I take this tube/spring apart? I didnt have the guts to try. I see there is a small hole in the tube. Is this for oil? Any other ideas?

it's not for oil, you can put a punch in it to hold the spring while you remove the bolt on the end. Call a gunsmith if you can't get it easily, there is a trick to it.
This will help me tons!I have been trying to figure out how to disassemble that darn thing for a while now! I however don't want to take it apart everytime I clean my gun so I just push the top cap down and squirt a healthy dose of carb cleaner in there and re-lubricate it, the hole in the bottom serves as a nice drain. The gunk that comes out makes you wonder sometimes.

This has worked for me. Remove the stock and put the spring assembly into a jar of mineral spirits. With a screwdriver push the spring up and down through the receiver end and flush the crud out of the recoil spring assembly. I usually work the spring for at least a hundred times.
