I had my boat out yesterday on the mighty mississippi (local damb) and pounded the eyes. my brother and I each took home a limit and were culling fish for most of the day. The biggest fish we boated was a 25 1/2 football. I think I may have to go back friday for a few hours.
We fish this spot all the way to the end of the season. The boat will not get put away till then.

I love that attitude!!
Was out on Tuesday on Mille Lacs and got some nice walleyes. Was out on Sat too, got some nice bass.
Bring on the little warmer weather and get the remaining ice off the lakes!!!
Might try the river this weekend.

Any tips?

DuckJ, What general area of the river where you fishing? Little Falls, Sartell, St. Cloud, or south of there? I was out Tuesday north of Sartell. Every other time I always caught big smallies, and lots of little walleye, with a few keepers. But this time absolutely no luck. But with ice patches here and there, I didn't try too many spots.

I drove by the landing hour ago. Small skin of ice over it. Hopefully, won't freeze too much tonite, cuz I plan on getting out Friday. I am new to the river this year. I was hoping with the cold water, some bigger walleye would turn on the bite. Any general techniques you can give out? Or is it simply Location, Location, Location...

MS, I fish in the Brainerd area.
I would look for the deep holes right below the damb. The fish seem to be hanging right on the drops(18 to 28 ft for us).
Simple jig and fathead hs work well and also a very short lindy, 1 ft if they are short striking your jig.

good luck
