Not quite sure yet. Probably sometime in the later afternoon (4-5pm). I would be down to fish w/ ya monday and tues. Shoot me a text, or else i'll call you and see if you're coming by.

Awww you're going to have fun up there! I've heard good things. My dad's good friend just got back and they boated 109 eyes in 2 days with 3 guys. They were fishing just out from the gap. Vegas jigs w/ shiners. Take some pics and post them so we can drool!

JW,

Could you explain a little more how you are setting up your line?

You put "75yds. backing then 7 colors then 35 ft. leader" do you put mono between the colors or are you running 7 colors together? What if you only need 2-3 colors to get to a set depth?

I just picked up some leadcore and want to get rigged right to use it.

Depending on the size of your reel, most walleye guys put around 7 colors of lead on, with no breaks in the line. How can you be sure you only need 2-3 colors of lead? If your only going to fish in 15' or less then you would be ok, but if you want to go deeper or faster than 2.0 or so you will need more. The faster you go the less the lead will sink, and vise versa.

made it out again this morning on mille lacs. the NWS forecast said it was 5 mph and calm in isle this morning and was supposed to be relatively calm throughout the morning, with a straight west wind. when we got there, there were huge waves, 4-5 foot rollers, and there was hardly any wind, it was the strangest thing ever. we trolled lead on the east side for about 40 minutes until we decided the waves were too much. we had caught 2 perch in that 40 minutes. we trailered, and then headed to the west side to get out of the wind, and fished for a few more hours out there... tried shallow, tried deep.. .couldnt find too many active fish but we did end up with these two dandies.

this is a extremely healthy and fat walleye that my buddy BaitChaser caught

my only fish of the day was this jumbo perch. it hit a number 5 jointed shad rap in a perch pattern.

we had to work for our fish today.. only caught a few; 2 walleyes and few perch. couldn't really find the numbers of fish today, but we were extremely limited with the wind. couldn't fish the spot i wanted to fish on the east side.

I don't use leadcore, but I've been thinking about it. I'm surprised to hear that no one is using floro for their leader.

JW- How deep were you trolling in that last pic? Being it was at night I'm assuming it was much shallower?

fishhead-we actually were running 3 lines in the boat.. 2 of which were using lead... the other one was long lining mono. all on line counters reels. i havent heard good things about fluro for leaders on lead... it sounds like the way to go with lead leaders is mono... seems what the majority of guys do

yes, we were trolling anywhere from 5-13 feet that night. usually about 60-80 feet out on my line counter depending on the specific crank

I just use a good quality clear mono. Never found the need to use floro. Im not a big floro fan anyways. I dont like the sinking properties it brings. I keep going back to Trilene XT but am using some Sensation right now and I will see how I like that. Supposed to be a good combo of limpness and strength.
