Turkey roosting question

TDH

Recommended Posts

Do turkeys generally roost in the same trees every night this time of year? I heard a few fly up tonight when I was deer hunting but I don't know there exact location. My plan is to try and set up on them tomorrow morning the best I can. At the very least I should be able to pinpoint their location when they fly down. If that doesn't work out I was wondering if it would pay off to try and set up tomorrow afternoon near where they roosted tonight?

I drive by a couple of different flocks of birds on my way over to Cannon Falls where I deer hunt. In the past three weeks, I can predict where one of the flocks will be within 100 yards if I drive by at 4:30 PM. (I see the same big gobbler in that flock every time!)

I would definitely set up near where they roosted in the best possible spot for an ambush. If you know they came down a certain trail, set up along that trail.

Generally if birds aren't spooked out of their roosting area, they will end back to that general area for awhile. I've found that turkeys are pretty much the most unpredictable bird though so always prepare. The biggest question is which route they pick once they get off the roost. This spring I had them roosting in the same area every day of my season, yet they routed differently everyday. I'd adjust or Guess my next setup and they'd counter it. All you can do is try.
