Filling boat gas tank

Recommended Posts

Here is my problem: I can only guess how much gas my boat has because the gage bites. And I hate to fill it until it kicks the pump off because gas spills out everywhere and I also don't like gas in the fill tube that runs down to the tank.

Is there a way to fill my tank, but not have it so full that it fills the tube? Again, I can't trust the gage, so watching it is not an option.

I also had that problem on my crestliner fishhawk. It only happened if I just put the nozzel in the fill port and started pumping. Gas will go down the vent and fill port because the vent is also in the same hole. Then pressure builds up and shoots gas out 4 feet. To solve this make shure you put the gas nozzel all the way down in the 1 inch hole and gas will not come back up.

I don't know if that is your problem but it happened to me. I am guessing you cant see your tank. I can open up the rear cargo door and see the gas in the plastic 25 gal tank and watch while filling.

If you want to verify it's as good as it can get... I'd follow the vent connection on the side of the boat to the tank.. are there any low spots in the vent hose, kinks / twists / tight bends in the hose that might restrict the airflow?
