Comcast Digital Voice

Does anyone have it? And if so do you like it?

Thinking about getting the package deal from Comcast and would like to hear from people in metro that have it. I have read the online reviews and it's 50-50 but that’s from across the country.

Thanks

Dutch

I switched about 6 months ago and it has been just fine. Yes you can keep your existing number. You will now have another modem which they will nick you for a charge each month. I got free long distance for a year with the promo, not a big deal I typically use my cell phone for that but it is nice if you are conducting financial transactions or other sensitive calls and want a more secure line than cell or cordless phone.

One thing to keep in mind for those that drop your land line is you have lost your 911 capability. What happens at home if you need to dial 911? There is no location service with a cell that will give them EXACT location. Call with a land line and they instantly know your location. You can get a basic phone service for very little per month and keep your land line, like everything else they don't advertise that fact, you will have to ask.

Something to consider for those that are dropping land line in favor of cell service.

For 911 they use E911

It utilizes E911, rather than the standard 911 service utilized by other large VoIP carriers. This allows the 911 service to immediately know where a caller is located, regardless of whether or not they are able to vocally relate their location to the operator.[1] On July 16, 2008 Comcast officially reported that CDV had crossed the 5 million customer mark in less than a year.

I have three comcast phone lines at my house as I work from home and have not been very impressed. For a while it seemed that they would go down at least once a week in the middle of the day, it's been better lately but just happened again on Friday. It wouldn't bother me that much if it was just a residential line to call grandma and what not but when you're on a conference call at 10:30 in the morning and everything suddenly goes dead it becomes an issue.

We had a voicemail from Comcast last week that they would be out working on upgrading things in the neighborhood the next day and that there would be brief service interruptions. At 7 AM sharp it was out for about 10 minutes and that was it for the day. That is the only service interruption we've had.
