Story 0 Comments Font Size: A first time bear hunter could make state history with a more than 700 pound prize he found Southeastern Price county.

The hunter, Mark Listle says he 's still waiting for confirmation from the DNR whether or not his bear has set a state record.

"That's my first black bear I ever shot."

Listle has been deer hunting since he was 12 years old, but on Friday night after a tip from a friend, he made a discovery of a life time on a farm in the Town of Spirit in Southeastern Price County.

"I was pretty excited cause I knew from the pictures [my friend showed me> how big it was and to it person to see it, it was awesome when you see a 727 pound live weight bear that's big."

The bear 's live weight was certified at a weighing station in Prentice.

After that Listle brought it to the Safari Room in Medford to have it mounted.

Brenda DuVall a Wildlife Artist there says the bear's hide measured 80 inches in length from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail.

"This bear was so big it had to be brought in with a bobcat, literally a forklift and it was covering the 4 by 8 sheet of plywood."

Listle says he wants everyone to see his prize and hopefully it will generate more interest in the sport.

"After it's mounted it will be on display at my convenience store in Tripoli for everyone to see it."

To contact the Safari Room click on the link below.

If you'd like to see the mounted bear, stop by the Tri Mart BP and Propane on Hwy 8 in Tripoli.

The Safari Room anticipates having his full mount completed in about 10 to 12 months.

There are some BIG bears roaming Wisconsin, that's for sure.

Like the comment: " Sad. That bear had a nice ling life and probably has grandbears that roam the wild in that area. It's nice that people find it amusing and rewarding to take the life of something so beautiful and majestig in the northwoods and stuff it. I'm glad it was her last. "

Some people just have no clue..."grandbears" that cracks me up.

There are a ton of huge blackies being shot these past few years. The one from last year that Klecker is talking about Dressed out at 660lbs which fell 5lbs short of the weight record. Green Score on head was 21 1/8 but have not seen any official score yet.

This year there was a bear shot in Bowler that weighed 736lbs, now I have no info if that is live or dressed. The only pic available appears it is dressed, but not sure yet. If it's live, this one has a chance at both records respectfully. Only time will tell.

These bears are eating way too well, especially when the DNR are saying anything over 425 should be considered a trophy. Happy hunting!!
