H20C Question

CrappieAttitude

Question

I have a 3 year old H20C and up until recently I have loved the unit. For some reason now it is having a really tough time getting locked in. I had it in the boat this summer running off of external power and it never locked in. Turned the unit off and on a couple times. Tried brand new batteries in it. Still no luck. I am really easy on my stuff, so it hasn't hit the ground or been banged around at all.

I talked to a guy that reccommended getting an external antenna. He stated that my antenna was probably a little weak. He said he has had some issues with units doing the same thing. Looking on line it looks like I can get one for about $25 bucks. Has anyone ever used one of these before? I really don't like the idea of needing an external antenna especially if I need to carry a wad of extra cable along in order to make it work. It would be fine in my boat, or on my ATV, but carrying it in the woods would be a hassle. Any suggestions on anything else to try.

Thanks,

CA

You know Crappie I have the same prob with mine though its 4 or 5 years old. It worked like a charm until this summer and now it seems I can't get a signal lock. I haven't tried in a month or two so now that it's closer to ice fishing I will see what happens. If you figure anything out I will do the same. Maybe it's the air around Brainerd, that's were I fish too grin

Yes, make sure WAAS is turned off. They were having problems with one of the WAAS satelites earlier this year and I don't believe they got it fixed yet. You may also want to help the unit out by configuring your location as close as you can get and don't move it while it is searching. Also make sure it has a clear view of the sky with no trees, buildings or even a windshield blocking its view.

I have noticed with the WAAS satelite down it takes a lot longer (5 min plus) to find itself, and if you're requiring WAAS it will never find itself.
