I usually wear an ear plug in my left ear when duck hunting, but don't like how it hinders my hearing so much. I've seen the plugs at the stores that allow you to hear normally, but have a baffle that reduces the noise of a gun shot. They're only about $8 so I'm wondering if anyone has used these and have any comments.

Thanks

I do not have any experience with that model. I know some guys that wear them with the plug in during regular handgun shooting and they love them. From what I read though if the plug is out they do not reduce the noise level much.

I have two sets of custom molded ear plugs that I wear. One pair is solid for competition shooting and the other has a baffle built in that reduces the decibel level but I can still hear good enough with them in. It does take some getting used to them but keeping my hearing is important. As a plus I paid for mine out of my health care spending account. Just about any hearing place should be able to hook you up. An internet search will give you some options.

I have the baffled type that i use for everything. They drop the db level to 20. I found them great for flying too, they are molded for each ear and fit like a hearing aid would. pretty comfortable, one thing i would recommend if you go with the molded ones, do some research and go to an actual hearing store to have them made. you might pay a bit extra but wont be sorry. I have had mine since 98 and use them very often.

I have a pair of the $8 baffle plugs you are talking about. They do the job letting you hear fairly normally for calling then shutting out hte gun blast when you pull the trigger. The problem I had with them is my ears got sore after having them in a few hours. I have since gone to a pair of the electronic muffs where you can control the noise level. They work great nad keep your ears warm in the cold morning wind. The only problem I have with them is when the wind blows directly into the microphone. It gets a little loud then so I have to turn the upwind muff down a little.
