Shotgun Barrel ?

Recommended Posts

Can an older 12ga full choke barrel be bored out to an modified or improved cylinder? Or could it be tapped for screw in chokes?

The gun is a mid 80's Remington 1100. Can steel shot be fired through this barrel?

yes they can be reworked, I believe if the barrel has been proofed for steel, it is usually stamped for it. I am sure you could shoot steel through it BUT if your barrel is not proofed for it, you will be damaging it........have you looked into replacement barrels for it? That might be an easier route to go.....

check out midway usa, cabelas and even bass pro shop online.......actually if you just typed in an internet search and said remington 1100 barrel you would be surprised what you would find. Also check out gun broker as well, I got a new 20ga bps barrel for almost half of a new one from browning.

That barrel is fine for steel, it can easily be opened up to any choke you wish, but you will find it more efficient and cost effective in the long run to have choke tubes installed. Check out the sponsor of this forum, installing tubes runs $125 + a couple tubes will get you out the door for much less than a new barrel.
