This is getting ridiculous. I can honestly say I've never been so excited for upland hunting. I consider myself a waterfowler/deer hunter first, and an upland bird hunter when I've limited out on the other two. But his year I have my first dog, and I can not freakin' wait to get him on birds.

To put it in perspective: I've been YouTubing grouse hunting videos...that's how stupidly obsessed I'm getting.

Heck, I'm at work right now and I can't seem to concentrate for more that 2 minutes without looking at hunting forums. Thank the LORD North Dakota's season opens this Saturday. I don't know what I'd do if I had to wait another darn week like you poor Minnesota guys

Well, made it out Saturday for North Dakota's grouse opener. Flushed three and shot three, so that was my limit. It was the pup's first hunt for sharpies, so he had a tough time finding them (he turned 4 mos. old on Friday). Ended up losing the third grouse after a good 20 minute search by both of us, so we called it a day after that. He did make an awesome find/retrieve on a morning dove that flew a bit too close to me and fell in some tall, gnarly CRP. I was pretty proud! Now that he has that experience out of the way, I can't wait to get him on ruffs!

Actually, sharpie and dove breasts wrapped in bacon, grilled and slathered with BBQ sauce! Had it for lunch and dinner yesterday. Turned out great!

I plan on exposing the pup to absolutely every kind of hunting I possibly can this fall. Then when we hit the training hard next summer, he'll already kind of have an idea of what to expect.
