Chinook Salmon?

Caught these just south of the Cross River, couple hundred feet from the mouth. Having a heck of a time id'ing them, black tongue so not steelhead. These are 14-18"

Not until they get into the streams usaully. They should still eat decent though. After they get into the streams for awhile the quality of the tablefare goes down.

your right about the eating quality going down fast. its almost as they enter the streams they start to deteriorate. the ones on the picture should be fine. with humpy's you got to be there early in their run. good luck.

Pinkies!(and I think the one on the right is a coho) FYI, only the males grow the hump during the spawning run.

Nice you got into them fresh, still should be good eating. All salmon stop eating and deteriorate once the make their spawning run. They are making their last stand in life and put every bit of energy into the spawn and nothing else.

Not sure keeping fish you're not sure of the species is the best way to go.........also, were you by yourself? Cause if you were, you're one over the limit....................

Shiner- Only 4 were mine. I knew these weren't trout, and the bag limit on all salmon is the same. You a CO?

Exept for atlantic salmon...only 1 can be kept. However, when is the last time anyone has ever caught one of those? Do they even live in the lake anymore?

i think the state record will stand forever. they just didn't do well according to the dnr and they stopped stocking a long time ago. matter of fact it's been so long i haven't thought much about them until now. good luck.
