September Morson Reports

Back on track with bigger fish.

Nice but quick trip for the weekend. Only fished Saturday, for a couple hours, and got a FAT 26" on crawler and spinner near a current area. Several keepers, too. I was too cheap to buy minnows so used up the summer crawlers! My sister visiting from Oregon got a 19.5, her first walleye ever on her first trip to LOTW! A lot of boats out Saturday in gorgeous weather. We went for a nice long boat ride to end summer. They were still fishing the reefs and catching some. Lots of wind Thursday before we got up and ample wind Friday, too rough to go far.

Did some duck scouting and got some stuff ready, back up Thursday night!

Made the trek Friday - Monday. Fished west Saturday around the Sunset channel area. Beautiful day. Fished points and humps and had some good luck. We used crawlers and jigs with good success. Biggest was 22" and lots of nice eaters. Around 15' was the depth we caught fish.

Sunday was near perfect Fall weather (but not even a breeze). Went up to the Elbow in Obabikon. Managed to find a few crappies. Lots of boats zipping around there already.

Do any of you go through the Obabikon channel on plane? Saw that for the first time - decent size boat too. I hug the rock on the west side of the channel and put-put through.

Monday, we fished traditional Fall spots with current and did ok. Some nice 18" fish and a couple really nice fish lost. Saw some nice flocks of Honkers on the east side of Burrows bay. Also some huge flocks of cormorants, too . . .

Back up in a few weeks.

Oops. (I'm not seeing an edit post option) Just realized I fished Sunday, not Saturday. Got goofed up because of the Monday holiday. Noted Shorelunch said Sunday was the perfect day up there, duh, Friday and Saturday were windy.

Heading up tomorrow, will report back if I fish any.

Just got back from two weeks at our trailer. Did very well on walleyes East of Morson. Deep water (17-28')necked down current areas. Good fish between 17-18". 10 over 24". Bottom bouncers and spinners mostly. Minnows outfished crawlers. One 50" muskie on a jig. Two limits of crappies around the Bottleneck. Did OK on ducks, had hoped to do better. We did not see the usual amount of mallards and ringnecks. Lots of woodies and geese. Almost too much rice in places. Back in 10 days. Hope the divers are down.

We were up for last weekend and fished out North and East of Morson Friday and Saturday. Lots of wind was the game. Casted our arms off and only managed 1 muskie (46") and saw 2 others. No northerns casting at all. Spent about 2 hours jigging for walleyes, did pretty well, catching our 4 person limits of 14-22" fish along with one 25" pike and a 18" smallie.

We will be back up the second weekend in Oct. to ty our luck at some trolling for muskies. Hope for some better luck!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
