Is this a Brook?

Looked like a trout. Not sure what stream i was on but just out of Carlton MN. So i know there are Brook Trout in the streams. Had the smooth skin. But it was only about 4in long.

That is a creek chub. Good bait. I have actually heard of people smoking them or frying them like smelt. Never tried it my self. If you want to catch brookies it would be a good idea to get rid of that huge snap swivel and tie directly to your hook. They will also hit a small spinner such as a mepps or panther martin.

They'll also rise to dry flies. They can be very aggessive at times.

Was fishing the St Louis and going back we stopped at that little creek. Was rigged for SmallMouth and rough fish. These guys were hitting mepps spinners, kast masters and grubs. Finally caught one with a worm. Super aggressive little guys. Maybe another time for my brook.

Is that one of the little streams off of Hwy 23? I have caught a lot of those little creek chubs in the Blackhoof.

the upper blackhoof was a wonderful trout stream, but i haven't fished it since high school. i remember my brother and i made it up as far were you could jump across. we used to get brookies up there.good luck.

Not sure the road. We take 210 out of Cromwell going towards Carlton. We started fishing Boy Scout Point i think it is. Then back to the bridge just passed Carlton down from the dam. Then went into Carlton and followed one of the trails. Forget which. Was about a 10 min hike in.

Got Ruffe and Creek Chubs in the same day.

Waste, this post makes me laugh. I remember fishing in that area for my first time and wondering if I was catching baby Rainbows. I got a bit more experience now but I'm not too proud to share my mistakes.

I can't get ENOUGH creek chubs when I'm after 'em! No way they're pesky.

Throw them in the bait bucket, they'll make you golden for any predator fish in MN. They're the next best thing to using fingerling trout for bait
