spearingboy
I just got a new pick-up truck and unfortunately I wasn't on the ball to have the dealer put mud flaps on for me. I was just wondering if it's a job I'd be able to do myself and if you guys can recommend a brand. I don't need anything fancy just something to keep the rocks from chipping the paint. The body shop I went to gave me a price of $80 for 4 flaps plus $56 for labor. Thanks for any advice.
Powerstroke
Its a half hour job with some screws. Piece of cake. Your truck should probalby already have the holes there anyway.
UMDSportsman
I spend right around $80 i think for the plastic molded ones from the chevy dealer ('09 silverado). Put them on myself. easy job. Came with hardware and instructions.
jwhjr
Get the plastic molded ones from GM. Easy install and they last.
muddpuppy
I would recamend adding an anti rust agent to the hole you before adding the mud flaps. I have a 03 with stainless steel flaps that got installed by Waldoch and the truck is starting to rust bad due to them not trating the area. jeffreyd
if you do the stainless ones, you can put a bead of caulking between the flap and truck where it mounts to help keep the electrolysis from happening. also put some anti seize on the screws to keep them from rusting in. aczr2k
Another vote for the molded ones from GM, well worth the money.
Jeremy airjer W
You can't beat the fit and look of dealer flaps!
whos_on_first
I use to have rubber mud flaps on my '02, but didn't necessarily think they looked as nice as I would have liked. When I got my '08 I bought molded. Two things to look out for...1) There aren't pre-drilled holes on silverados. Unless you have a flexible drill bit you need to take the rear wheels off in order to drill staright holes (front wheels you can turn enough to drill)...and my floor jack and jack stands wouldn't accomodate the ride height to get the wheels off. 2)If you do any off-roading the molded ones don't offer any forgiveness if you go over a significant hump or dip. I hit a hole on a trail once and by the sound thought I'd either ripped the mud flap off or bent the body, but luckily all was well. I'm a lot more cautious now though...and still prefer the look of the molded.
spearingboy
Thanks for all the advice and input guys. I ordered the mold ones yesterday. Can't wait to get them put on so I don't have to listen to that nasty sound of the rocks bouncing off the side of my truck.
Wildabeast
Sorry you ordered yours already. The best mudflaps I've seen for a pick are from Duraflap. They have drill and no-drill models and some extra long ones that are great for towing. Very heavy duty.
