One parting response before I go,

jkcmj, as to your question, "Any of the above sound like natural course of things?"

My answer - in the form of a question. Do any of the "natural death" instances, or normal animal activities you mentioned in your prior post include bullets or cars?

Like I said, if you can go out there and kill a bear with your bare hands then you certainly belong in the natural order of things. I just don't want to fight you. laugh

Humans are part of the natural world, of course. I didn't say otherwise. But if you put me naked, in a fight vs. a large bear (level playing field), not only will it be an amusing sight (or perhaps better said - unpleasant site), but I will almost certainly lose. crazy We're talking about two entirely different playing fields here.

Bears and wolves have their teeth, deer have their nose, we have our brains. You might think its more natural or a level playing field to fight a bear naked but my brain is telling me I can't win that fight and that I need to the heck out of there or get some help. If your brain is telling you otherwise you are probably going to get torn up or turned into bear food, all natural either way you slice it.

i heard from a teacher that the colars have a tracking device and some people are able to use there gps and track were the bear has been traveling and were it is..... to me thats just not fair chase i also heard that it is not illigal to hunt collared bears wich is sad.

People don't collar the bears to track them and kill them. Strictly research. and if the dnr does the research they don't throw a fit if you harvest the animal legally

Yes, the collars have a tracking device that the RESEARCHERS are able to track - not any hunters.

Why is sad that it is not illegal to hunt and shoot collared bears? They are still wild bears, they aren't pets.

OK kid, the teacher is wrong on the GPS thing. Hunters cannot track the bears with their GPS as the GPS units on the bears is controlled by the researchers and they are the ones tracking the bears with them. Not hunters.

Second, the law protects all animals, even collared bears. We already have laws that protect them from overpopulation, and from being over harvested.

So go tell your teacher that you figured it all out and she needs a little education!

it is said that some hunters are able to lets just say "hack" the colar and track the bear and if so it is possible thats why i said it should be illigal.... juging from your reply im guessing you have a strong masculant side because you suposily think it was a female teacher who told me this when the truth is it was a male teacher who reported it.....

sorry something i learned in econs and i do tend to challenge others about it

Apparently P.T. Barnum was right.

If they tracked the bear thruogh GPS then why would they go out of their way to shoot a younger bear instead of a 300 or 400 pounder. I dont know if it really was a 12 year girl that did this (that was the rumor)but, im sure if it was she was a genius and purposely turned the bear hunting world upside down. Why not just pay the 1500 in shoot one up in Canada probally would be easier. Actually thinking more in depth about it, maybe it was PETA. What else would have made bear hunters point fingers at themselves and then questioning others hunting ethics when the kill was totally legal. The whole point about the evolution of man and creation of tools is silly. If my family was starving there are a dozens of ways to kill bears without even touching them but, far from legal. They did it thousands of years ago no problems from any anti hunters. Believe me it is more humane in todays world of hunting then a group of cavemen backing them into a trap with torches then bashing their brains in with rocks. A man just got nailed in Canada for killing one with a spear, not legal.

If the poor spelling was pointed at me dunno what chore talkin abot. When I was in high school I did not have the greatest grades. The only reason why I graduated was I aced the toughest class I had and that was research paper. For final grade I had a ten page arguement paper that my peta teacher gave me an A, you guessed it anti hunting. This collar bear topic is a riot.

wingedone, Thanks for bringing our attention to this article. My experience with Black Bears has taught me to respect them. I would not want to live near Mr. Rogers. I think it will only be a matter of time before tragedy strikes involving "his" bears and some innocent victim who finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. God gave wild animals a natural fear of man. There will be consequences to pay for taming these bears. It is my opinion that hunters who hunt and take "Roger's bears" will be doing a great public service. Too bad Rogers has brought this upon these bears.

As always, Boar brings a little light to an almost meaningless philosophic exchange.

The bear meow, meow, probably doesn't actually know it's wearing a tracking meow, meow device, meow. The bear certainly doesn't know it's about to be shot in the meow, meow, heart.

Don't lament the taking of a bear, with a collar, by a hunter. It's not a part of the natural life-cycle of a bear, but it is a part of a program, designed by wildlife biologists, to control the MN bear population. It's not illegal. It ends the research of this bear, but it's still viable statistical data.

Without sound research into the, meow, natural, meow, meow, life-cycle of, meow, bear, meow, Mr. Rogers may be shooting in the, meow, meow, dark. Just a wild prediction, meow, but this may be, meow, meow, the end of his, meow, meow, "research".

With all due respect to everyone posting here, this has been a very interesting conversation. I think there's been great points made on both sides of the issue.

I stand as not taking sides. I think there's room for both research, as well as hunting. If I were wrong, I think our MN DNR would be looking aggressively for other work. Or, we would be overrun by those pesky scientists.

To be honest, I've struggled to understand some of the points made on this thread. However, I appreciate everyone's input. If you take the time to analyze the statistics on FM you can quickly discern that far more people are reading/watching, then are actually contibuting to the conversation.

I often wonder if they know something that we should know? IMHO they likely do.

Nice bear Wing.......
