Do you take in an average evening of fishing? IM thinking it cant be more than 150 - 200. One of my buddies thinks 500? Anyways, im going to invent a castometer, that will tell the truth!

guy if you that good of an engineer instead??? invent a computerized reel where when you get a backlash all you have to do is hit "delete"

hahaha, I second that one!

Since we're talking inventions...I'm sure things are getting close to this anyway....but I would love to see this technology.

1. Pull up map chip software on your computer of lake X.

2. Draw the route you want to fish lake X with your curser by following the countours, click save.

3. Take software out of computer and pop it in your trolling motor.

4. Pull out of driveway and drive to lake.

5. Back boat into lake and shove off.

6. Hit "GO" on your trolling motor.

7. Spend the rest of the day not touching the trolling motor and just fishing the perfect route so you are 100% focused on that follow instead of steering the trolling motor with your foot at the same time. hahaha. Granted, it would need the ablility to counter the wind, stop to move to the next spot, re-do a spot, etc....

The Ipilot is close, but not really.

We have way too much time to think about gadgets that could improve the hours on the water.....haha.

The original question??? Depends who my fishing partner is....one partner I fish with doesn't talk much, we just fish and are focused....another likes to talk talk talk and I don't get in nearly the amount of casts I should in that same time frame.

I would guess it would be pretty easy to avg a cast a minute, so put that to an hour that's about 60 let's give that a +/- of 5 or so and in a 5 hour trip you pump out 300 casts give or take up to 50 or so based on travel between spots and conversation like Shoot2Kill pointed out.

But really who honestly knows and what would it benefit if you actually knew, all it would do for me is depress me to get down to the nitty gritty on the number of casts per fish.

Wanna really be depressed figure out on avg how much each fish costs you per year. Boat Payment, Boat/Motor Maintenance, Gas, Insurance, Tackle (lures rods reels), incidental damage to your boat... YIKES, very expensive hobby...

Depends how I'm fishing. In June on a 5 hour outing I probably could approach the 500 cast mark. During the same 5 hour span in the fall it might be closer to 200. I really don't think cast count is as important as time on the water. I mean if I'm trolling I might make 2 casts and get 2 fish.

Shoot2Kill, i like your idea, a lot. I think that this is very possible in the future...your giving me great ideas. SO my mom has this thing called a pedometer...it counts her steps, so i would think it would be easy to come up with a "castometer"...heck, maybe even the pedometer would work.

Make it happen! I too think it's possible, the I-pilot is a start in the right direction. We just need a die hard muskie guy to be a genious computer nerd too. haha. grin

Bucktail, prop topwater....A cast every 30 seconds, 120 casts an hour... minus 30 minutes for running and another 30 minutes for unhooking and releasing fish smile.

6 1/2 hours.... I would say about 700 casts.

Casting and blasting!!!!

Footnote...

If you go with this method your wrists will not be functional the next day.
