Mudcat21
The FF league I'm in is thinking of switching to an auction style league. If you have done this live as a group (not online) what are some hiccups you have run into? We have always gotten together as a group at a local watering hole to do our draft. Thanks for the info.........
RiverFish
Auction league is great, you will never go back to snake draft again. Our league has done the auction draft the the last 3 years. We love it. It gives everyone the same chance at players. We have never really had any problems.
jigging-matt
We have done this for the past few years, and it is great. The most important thing that we have found is make sure you have a good auctioneer that keeps things moving, and make sure you have someone helping him to keep names straight on the boards. We try to keep it moving along pretty well. Set certain time frames for breaks. We hold it in my garage every year and it has become quite the get together. Craigums
Agreed auction drafts are the best. No real hiccups that I can think of, Just make sure nobody overspends to the points were they can't fill out there roster.
Mudcat21
Was your "Auctioner" not part of your league?
RiverFish
Was your "Auctioner" not part of your league? We thought of the that when we first started. We just decided to have our commissioner do the auctioning. Not really a big deal. "AP for $25, going once, going twice, going three times, gone...."Fairly simple, process. jigging-matt
In our league the Auctioneer and his assistant are not part of our league. They like FF, but don't have the time to deal with the season, so we buy them some beer and feed them that night. We have used the same guy as our auctioneer except for one year, that year wasn't near as smooth. It is much easier when you have two people who are not part of the league to run it. We usually end up with quite a few extra people around for the evening, it has become quite the get together.
Coach1310
I would guess that a lot of folks don't have an extra person to do the auctioning, so we just alternate. The person next to the owner "tossing" out a name(tossing is nominating a player for bidding) is the auctioneer. If that person becomes a bitter it moves to the next guy. The biggest hiccup is making sure EVERYONE keeps track of EVERYONES money... this way no one runs out.
RiverFish
You don't need a separate person as an auctioneer. Basically give everybody one last chance to bid, if no higher bidder high bid wins. Pretty simple.
jigging-matt
I'm not saying that you need a seperate auctioneer, but it does help eliminate arguements and helps speed up the pace. Plus it is a blast. I have had a bunch of people come to our Auction and watch, and they all say it sure makes it run smoother and is a lot more fun.
