Remington 887

What do you guys think about the gun? Im thinking about buying it, but I have read some bad reviews.

No frills workhorse that doubles as a boat oar. Shot a guys new one at the trap range a couple weeks ago. Rotary bolt helps tame recoil. Action was still stiff. Gun is ugly, but got the job done. You want a gun that you can throw around in the mud or keep in the bottom of a duck boat, its your gun.

I wouldn't recommend it myself. Have seen about 40% come back with issues. If you need a 3 1/2 inch get the 870 super mag or a Nova.

Koonie, I had a supernova, it was junk, might have just been a lemon. The 887 really reminded me of that gun. Why are they coming back? Is it malfunction, or is it just too hard to get used to all the plastic?

I bought one last fall. I like it. I am a Remington man and the special coating got me to buy it for turkey hunting. I hate having to worry about drying my gun off at the end of the day when it's been raining. Don't get me wrong, I still wipe it down but now I don't have to worry if I don't get completely dry. I have several 870's already and this seems just as reliable. I like the recoil pad. Definately tames down the turkey load.

One thing I will say is when ejecting the shell, don't be shy on the slide. It likes to be slammed to kick the shell out. I have never had a cartidge fail (I shoot 3") to eject in the woods but have target practicing. I think this is because when hunting, I have the adrenaline pumping and I really slide it back but on the range I don't usually slide it back hard.

A 3.5 inch pump will need to slide alot farther. Very easy to shortstroke a 3.5 inch pump if you are used to a 3 inch.

I should have mentioned I shoot a 3" shell even though my chamber will hold 3 1/2" (both my 870 and 887). When I mentioned don't be shy on the slide(I wasn't implying it being short stroked). It likes to be slammed back not gently pulled back. I have only had this problem while sighting in 'cuz the adrenaline isn't flowing.

It's mostly been feeding and ejecting shells with a few that will not fire on a regular basis. I talked to each person about the short shucking thing and took several out and tried them myself. Still had the same issues though.

I don't mean to say they are all junk but we've had waaay to many people bring them back with problems. I like the idea of the gun and I've always been a huuuuggggeee Remington guy. Much to the chagrin of my friends and co-workers.

I was in a gun store today. 4 used ones were sitting on the shelf. For a gun that has only been out for a year I thought that was alot of them. I think I saw one used 870 at this store.
