How much does an 11 pound propane tank weight? Is it 11 pounds with the tank? or just 11 pounds of gas? I'm looking for total weight with a full tank.

I believe that the 11lbs referes to the wt of gas.

All I know is 20# tanks hold 20# of gas, and so on for 100, 10, etc.

I've never heard of an 11# tank. Where's that number come from???

The actual tank weight should be stamped onto the tank so they know when they are full,that is why they put them on a scale,for instance if a 100 lb tank weighs 30 lb emty it would be 130 lb full

i donno those 20 pound tanks weigh a ton though, my guess is they are way over 20 when filled. empty they are pretty light. put one on the bathroom scale and find out, n post what the results are.

An 11 lb tank holds 11 lbs of LP.
Tanks are filled by weight.
Thats why/how they dont get over filled.
Did you ever see a tank filled?
Its sittin on a scale.
Your empty tank has the weight on it.
So If you have a half full tank and you have it filled they can calculate how much LP to top it off.
So I fill my own tanks at .79 cents a gallon cost me under $2 to fill it a 11 lber.

Seabass, ST is getting you right on track, all tanks have the weight stamped on the tanks, WC is the water capacity weight, they fill them with water to test them, TW is the tare weight(empty), and yes an 11 pounder holds 11 pounds of gas, so when it's full it should weigh the TW plus what ever size it is.Today all new tanks come with the over fill valves so they can't be filled above the eighty percent level, the old valves didn't have the float shut off and could be filled full. All tanks are only filled to eighty percent level to allow for expansion,so with the old style valve if they were filled above the eighty percent level and warmed up to much the spring loaded pop off valve could release gas and if this happened in an enclosed area it often led to explosions. So as ST said if you watch someone fill your tank they will weigh it while filling and the weight on the scale will be TW plus the size of you tank plus the weight of the valve on the fill hose. hope this helps.

I always wondered why 100 pounds of LP weighed so much. I have two, one hundred pound tanks.
One weighs 82 pounds and the other weighs 88 pounds empty. Now add in the liquid petrolem and you have yourself an average sized human.
I also have a couple of 60 pound tanks that weigh 42 lbs and 44 lbs. Much easier to handle.

Useless information: 20 lbs of propane = 4.8 galons (+/-)!!!!!

I worked at a bait shop for 4 years when I was young.
