chuckwagon
A friend and I did a little trip down the Minnesota river yesturday from Jordan down to Chaska. The river is quite fast and flooded pretty good. We were able to go around the Carver rail bridge log jam and right into river side park and paddle around in the field and watch the fish jump. Then we went out of the park at the boat ramp! It was a real good time and did about 9 miles in 2.5 hours casually paddling on and off. Duffman
Sounds like a good time, she's up and running pretty fast from what I can tell from crossing it twice a day. I'm going to try and get out there this summer, shakopee to burnsville, but I'm going to wait till the river backs down some.
MinnesnowtaWild
I have always really, really wanted to float the Minnesota River. Beautiful river with good size. Just watch out for those big snags!
chuckwagon
Yeah there were logs floating around us that would have swallowed a canoe pretty easy
smeese
The MN is Flat water, take it while it is full if you want a fun ride, or if our looking to roll a nice relaxing trip wait till it drops, either way pretty boring in comparison to other options. chuckwagon
What are some other "fun" options?
smeese
Ever come to Mankato, or the Faribault area? I suggest picking up Paddling Southern MN or Paddling Northern MN Both books give great options, and give a fair amount of info on the rivers in particular, along with a map of the area for puting in and out.
