Keyless remote?

Recommended Posts

Ok heres my problem, my mom just got a 2003 trailblazer and it didn't come with the keyless remote. Is it as simple as to purchase a remote and then program it for the vehicle? I already found the programming instructions for the vehicle if thats the case. Also can anyone tell me where the best place is to get a remote?

Pretty much yes, except you are programming the vehicle to accept the signal that the remote sends out, nothing gets programmed in the remote itself. Pick up a couple new/used remotes, (HSO junk yard/auction sites etc) follow the steps carefully and you should be in business. They all have to be done at the same time because the procedure deletes any previous remote codes. I've had to reprogram a few that didnt work the first time (probably I missed a step) but all ended up working. Most times they involve a sequence of turning on the ignition, then turning the switch to the OFF position a couple times, then pushing a door lock button and releasing the power unlock button after locks activate or maybe a horn honk. They are all different so the sequence and timing are the most important.

I got one for my Bonneville when I had it at a junkyard for $25. Found programming instructions online and I was set. Call around, although thats a newer vehicle, they still get into accidents and end up in boneyards

Bought one from midwest wireless out of Chicago for my wife's Highlander, wound up having to have the dealership program it anyways (luckily they covered it under extended warranty) as I guess the Toyota's are a little different, from what I've heard the GM ones you can do yourself
