scent recommendation??

Recommended Posts

I am wondering what scents people recommend I hunt private land up north and I've heard alot of different suggestions from vanilla, anise, liquid smoke, jello, and mixtures of these. I went on a site to order some and they offer a lot of variety from Bacon to muffins to anise etc? Where to choose...wondering what works most consistant, thanks appreciate your opinions.

I use anise oil. Buy the anise oil extract from your grocery store, mix it with some cooking oil, fill a squirt gun or super soaker and spray high in the trees.

You could substitute liquid smoke in place of anise, or peppermint extract. I heard carmel extract is suppose to work wonders.

I just got a sample of something really sweet smelling that is suppose to be the ticket as well. The company is in Minnesota but it's pretty expensive so I think I will stick with anise.

Wheres the eye of newt, lol really, just mix it all and cook it so it smokes then dump it on bait? Do you spray anything around on the trees etc?

There are bears around where your hunting right?

If so this works in addition to a bait pile.

it'll smoke alot. That smoke sticks to trees and floats downwind.

Burn it before going into your stand or groundblind then turn off your cooker. Leave it there until you leave then pack it out.

Wheres the eye of newt, lol really,

laugh I did laugh at that one. As I read through some of these bait, scent and other related topics it sounds like a lot of gourmet cooking and scent mixing going on. For a critter that will attack a garbage can or eat grubs from under a log there is a lot of worry about the little stuff.
