Mr Special
Last Tuesday the 29th, as I was sitting on my deck at 6pm I realized it was just too nice of a night to stay home. So I called John “WWG” to hit the river. John and his daughter Hopper were already planning to hit the river so it was set and we launched at 7ish. The river was high and debris all over the place. Some of which were floating death traps. “whole TREES” We found a spot out of the current and set up shop. It didn’t take long before John had a run. It turned out to be a baby flat 20”x10”. Then we went for a couple hrs without any action. As some of you know, I have the attention span/patient of a 5yr old. That’s why I always bring a wally rod. I had it set up with a 3way with a 20” #8mono leader rigged for wallys. John just happened to have some baby bullies 2.5” with. So I thought it had wally written all over it. After about 30mins of casting/jigging, I got lazy and decided just to have it sit right next to the boat incase something comes along sheepie, whitebass, gar,,etc. if so I would let Hopper reel it in as she was getting bored also. About 15mins later I saw the rod moved and thought it was just debris on the line. I picked it up and to my surprise it was a fish. So I hit the hook “felt like a decent fish” and handed the rod over to Hopper. To all of our surprise, 10mins later Hopper/John was still fighting this fish. We knew then that it wasn’t a targeted wally. Lol About 5 mins later we finally got a glimpse of her and soon afterwards got her into the net. She measured in at 39”x26” yea I know Super Fatty Flatty. I think Hoppers arms are still tired. John has better pix of her and Hopper with the fish, but for now these will have to do. Have a safe and fun 4th everyone Pic with the rig and 2.5" bullie
