Bibs

Recommended Posts

I am looking to buy a good set of bibs for fishing. Just the pants really. Has anyone purchased the Long Run set from Columbia?

I like the look of these with the high pockets, long side zip, and what looks like a long front zipper for eazy leakings.

Any other brands/models i should be considering? Thanks.

Comfort, waterproof, insulation are the priorities. In that order.

I've got a set of Cabelas gore-tex pants and a set of their Guide series gore-tex bibs. Hands down, if it's going to be crappy weather I'll take the bibs. The pants are as dry as anything out there, but they are pants. Jackets have a tendancy to ride up in the back when you are active and that opens it up for rain to get on your back and run down.mad Not all that comfortable.

Bibs keep that from hapening. The pants pack up much smaller and I keep them in the boat for unplanned rain showers but if I know it's going to be wet, it bibs for me, plus the Guide series bibs are built tougher with double knees and such, they also get used for ice fishing.

I have a job that requires me to be working outdoors in all conditions all the time. When I'm not working I am usually on the water in my tiller boat so I get wet if there is any breeze at all.

My first choice would be my Cabelas Guide Wear. The stuff is bulletproof and very comfortable. The only downside is it is a little warm on hot days.

I have the Columbia bibs and they are good. I wear them mostly for ice fishing in the winter because I like kneel in the slush and I'm not as concerneced about cutting them with my auger blades. They do not have the fabric inside like the other ones so it is one less thing to tear at some point. My wife actually wears these for summer fishing most of the time and does just fine except for the 1 small auger slice on the leg. They are not as breathable as my Guidewear but still okay.

I also have a set of Stearns breathable raingear breathable. Not sure on the models but it runs about 150 bucks for the bibs and pants. They are cheeply made but they do the job. I wear these for work mostly because I will more than likely destroy them in a year or so. I'm on my second year with my current set. I also bring these along if one of my fishing partners or wife needs a set of decent raingear. My last set started leaking on me after 1 year.

As far as the Gander mountain stuff I only have a guide series coat. It is just one step down from my Cabela's Guidewear in terms of quality. I do like the pocket configuration more than my Guide Wear. I have not tried the bibs but wouldn't be afraid to try them. My tournament partner wears these and he really likes them.

All this being said you get what you pay for. I would higly reccomend the Guide Wear. I am on my 3rd year with mine and they are not leaking and are still holding up pretty well. I am start to tear the inside fabric a little but I guess that is to be expected.

Bought the Cabela's Guidewear 4 years ago. After going through the Stearns, Columbia and all the other cheaper stuff. I bought the insulated Guidewear. Seems as though whenever the weather nasty, it's usually cooler/cold anyway. They also work great for icefishing. I know they're a little spendy, but how many sets of cheap stuff add up to a set of the good ones?

+1 I love the ones I have

I heard the Cabelas Guidewear is good stuff.

I just purchased the Gander Mountain TechH2O jacket and bibs the other day. Helly Hansen is making this stuff for GM. I will let you know how waterproof it is next week if the weather forcast stays like it is stated. Heading to canada and I am fishing rain or shine and by the looks of it the first 3 days will be rain rain rain lol.

Very comfortable stuff though.

I went with the Long Run Columbia bibs. All this talk about the BPS adn Cabelas stuff makes me wonder, but i just gave them a workout last weekend and they were great. Now I just need to find a good jacket. Does not have to match.

I dont want something too big though. I am 6'0 185, so I like to have my gear tight, but i need to find a top that is semi warm and will allow for layer and a hooded sweat shirt. Going shopping this weekend. I have a winter jacket that works when it gets really cold. The jacket I am looking for will only be used for summer, spring early fall rain. Also double as a comfortable jacket when it get a little nipply on the water.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
