green treated plywood?

Gadgetman

Question

I need the final word on what the deal is on green treated plywood and boats. I have been looking at used pontoons and the last one I looked at was at a reputable dealer and he said they had just redone the whole deck with green treated plywood. when I told him I had reservations about that he told me he had been doing it "forever" and never had any problems. My understanding was that green treat and aluminum dont play well together. What the deal? I passed on that particular pontoon

Very smart decision on passing on that pontoon. Go into any big lumber store and go look at what they recommend for putting together treated wood and they will all be coated or stainless steel. That boat dealer was just getting by on the cheap instead of doing the right way and using marine grade plywood.

what type of gasket would be recommended for this application. I'm doing a rehab on an older alumacraft 14' and want to put a new floor in and elevate it high enough to put seat mounts flush in the floor. I will need to run some sort of bracing on the floor and was thinking of wood? any advice would be helpful. would painting the aluminum and the treated boards be enough so it wouldn't react with each other?

Paint will wear off on contact points.

Use a strip of rubber between the plywood where it lays on and ribs, beams, & channels.

Before you carpet you seal the plywood, that'll keep the plywood from soaking up water but it'll also stop it from leaching. When you go to carpet that carpet should be stretched and wrapped around the edge and stapled to the back side of the floor.
