Cork Rods

What is the best way to clean the cork on my rods or is there a special cleaner avalible at the store?

A trick I learned that worked was tooth- paste. Rub tooth-paste on the handles scrub them and rinse them with warm water. Give it a try you will be impressed.

There's also a product that shoe stores sell for cleaning/protecting the cork base on Birkenstocks.

I always just rubbed the cork with a very fine sandpaper

Diluted dish soap works well, as does very fine sandpaper. I use both.

To expand on your approach, use a very fine sand paper. 120 seems best. Cup the paper in your hand and (this is important) turn the rod, not the paper! It won't take much. It works great!
