What do you all have? I just installed a stereo in my boat this spring and took her out this weekend for the first time. We were in Gods country and I could only get one station. In my garage at home I got multiple... just wondering what antenna others have installed and what it cost..

Thanks

You're " ...in God's country..." and you wanted to listen to the $%%^$$% radio!!?? Why not just sit back and listen to the music of the Great Spirit all around you.....clear and in surround sound!!

I don't know who the manufacturer is... but there is a amplified / powered radio antenna that is used by Lund(or used to be.. haven't seen a new lund for a little while) that works pretty well... I know Hannays has it in their catalog that dealers get...

If you go that route, be sure to connect the power wire to a switched power source to prevent running your battery down.

Same old thing....someone asks a specific question about radios and everyone spouts their opinion about whether or not you should be listening to a radio while fishing. IMO that's the same as hijacking a thread.

So to the original poster, I mostly boat on Vermilion so I bought a powered antenna when I installed my stereo this spring. So far it works pretty well. I bought mine off the shelf at Dan's Southside Marine in Bloomington, but assume that most shops that sell boat stereos might have one in stock as well.

As marine_man correctly pointed out, make sure that your antenna is powered through the same switch that you've wired your stereo to so that you aren't drawing down power when your boat sits for several weeks at a time. It's nice to think that you'll be out fishing more frequently than that, but life has a funny way of changing your plans.

Hey Coach 1310.....Skunked is right: my earlier post wasn't too helpful or on subject.

To what others have said, make sure unit ends up being properly grounded, regardless how you choose to install it. I suspect that is ONE reason you are not receiving all the stations you think you should.

Hey I got this one for ya!! Used to work for a boat manufacturer here in the middle of minnesota. Is your boat alluminum or glass? If it is alluminum does your antenna go through the hull? If your antenna goes through the hull and it is alluminum your antenna is shorting out. Some electrical tape around the shaft of the antenna where it touches the hull. This will fix your problem with that. Crestliner had lots of troubles with this. If your boat is glass Good luck.
