Adjusting steering tension

I've got a Lund Pro V with cable steering that is getting a bit to easy to turn. How does a guy adjust the tension so I have to put a little more effort into it? I believe it's a teleflex system.

Off the top of my head I can't think of an easy way to adjust the tension... if it's a rotary style there might be an adjustment under the console, but I don't think there is.

I'm fairly certain there is no way to increase tension on a steering system. You didnt mention what brand engine you have. I have seen after market tensioners that will go over the steering cable where it comes out of the tube on the engine. That might be worth looking into, but like I said, you wont find anything for tension in the cable system itself, rotary or rack.

It's a Johnson if that matters. Maybe I'll just wash the grease out and let it rust up a bit, that should make it a little harder to steer.

Probably not the easy fix you were looking for but, replacing the cable should tighten it back up. Sounds like it has worn itself loose.

dont some outboards have a screw you can adjust the ease that the motor turns somewhere on the mounting bracket of the motor or by the hood latch? both my 28 and 25 hp motors have this.

my bad. read over it too fast! would a "U" bolt on the cable somewhere work by pinching the outer tube to the cable?

Not a big motor, just a 1996 115 Johnson. You are right, I was looking for a easy fix since if this winter goes good the boat will probably be replaced with a 2009 621/F250B combo. Come on good winter!
