Question

I have come to the realization that mine is never going to work as it should, but wonder if someone can explain this to me. During daytime expecially if its sunny it will locate up to 12 sattelites and never lock onto me, but at sunset and dark it work fine, and will only require 5 satelites to lock onto me! heck it will even enable waas at night even though i dont have it set to require waas. This thing frustrates me and i wonder if the external anttena will help, but I have read It won't if the internal antenna isn't working properly.

Thanks

My GlobalMap 3600C does similar things to what you describe. There are times where it gives me an accurate location with just a few satellites and then there are other times with WAAS and more signals and my trails just wonders all over and accuracy has gone to heck.

As a retired engineer, that sounds like the "send this guy the cockroach letter" deal. On the other hand, I can't think of why the sun being out should affect a GPS receiver.

Sometimes however you will get poor accuracy because of the configuration of satellites. Recall that GPS locates your position by figuring how far you are from each satellite and triangulating.

Thanks for fowarding that I appreciate it. However after a week it still holds true, at about 8pm it will lock onto me right away, untill about 7:30 am. I bought an external antenna and received it today, it only cost 13 bucks so i thought it was worth a shot. Same thing, during day it would locate up to 12 sattelites but not lock on, untill about 8 tonight then it locked no prob..goofey

oh well, time to start saving up for something else.
