How fast to expect 15hp '76 Evinrude

I have a 1436 jon boat and with 2 people and fishing gear, I hit 15mph according to GPS; is that about right? I thought last time I had it going it was faster than that, but that was atleast a year and a half ago since that happened

About right, and remember that your speed is going to vary with load, sea conditions, wind, the way the load is distributed etc.

There is no "hurry" speed in that motor and Jon boat. Not only that, getting there is half the fun; when you get to sip a coffee, look at the sky, watch the shore and jabber at your pal. Don't rush through life......it'll go fast enough.

i put a 15 on my 12 foot row boat, two guys no gear, 85 lb boat 29 mph, on gps, DANGEROUS will never do it again.

it was dead calm out; not too worried on speed if its normal, just more concerned about the motor running correctly

that is about right.I have a 1970 starcraft 16' with a 15 hp johnson and I do 16.8 with my wife along and our gear. I have had this motor for 5 yrs and am ready for more speed myself.. With kids now my fishing time is getting more limited and I want to get to my spots and fish instaed of go boating. Thinking about a 25 hp suzuki oil injected. Have seen them in action wow they scoot!
