Slip Bobber Set Up

Recommended Posts

For you guys who like to slip bobber walleyes during the early season. Lets hear some of your favorite ways to rig them up. Hook and a weight? Just a jig and if so which ones have worked best? Certain size bobbers?

I have been a big fan of use a chartreuse or orange hook, split shot, and as small of a slip bobber that I can get away with in the wind.

plain red hook on about a 18 inch mono leader (I use braid line) split shot about 12 inches above the hook...top it all of with a small crappie style bobber and a golden shiner from a local pond by my house...oh yeah about six inches to a foot off the bottom

Slip, bead, bobber, weight, hook, leech. 6 pound line and 12 ounce drink. Pound em over the rocks on Mille Lacs.

My own opinion but I sometimes think people try to over complicate their setups. Must be that simple works too well and they want a challenge smile

My setup changes depending on the type of structure that I am trying to fish. If I am fishing a rock pile it would be a jig with a leech or a minnow that was hooked by the tail. If I was doing a little more searching or had a bigger spot to fish I would use a jig with a leech or hook the minnow through the lips and reel it back to the boat in 5 to 10 foot intervals to see if I can find the area where the fish are located. I like to use a light jig so it falls real slow so it makes it so a walleye can't resist taking a bite grin

On a reef,

Ultra Light rod set up with 2-4lb test,

Slip bobber, (Crappie size),

very small split shot,

plain hook, colored if you like,

Leech...

But I must have wind blowing in on the 4-6ft rock reef, and never lift the anchor... just give or take anchor line to change positions. Fan cast and let the wind and current do the work... clean and enjoy the fish dinner..... with taters.
