Sales tax on used boat

I am looking for a good used boat. I thought I had read that you dont have to pay sales tax on a used boat. I contacted a dealer about a boat and he said tp figure 700 bucks for "tax, title, and license". Can someone explain?

I believe Larson is correct. Just like when I bought a used 4-wheeler a few months back. If I would have purchased it from a dealer I would have had to pay sales tax on it at the time that I registered it with the state, but since I bought it from a private seller I did not have to pay the tax when registering it.

If its a private party, the only tax the state cares about is on the trailer when you register it at the DMV. And the tax is based on the "value" of the trailer. They literally asked me how much I thought the trailer was worth and based the tax fee on that.
