Have you tried to do a hard reset ? soft ?

LCX 112C Reset

Soft Reset (Does not delete GPS Data)

1. Turn unit OFF

2. Press and hold the PAGES key

3. Press and hold the PWR key

4. Release both buttons when the USA map appears

Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data such as Waypoints and trails)

1. Turn unit OFF

2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time

3. Press and hold the PWR key

4. Release both buttons when the USA map appears

Then you most likely have a power supply issue or a stuck button on your graph. Clean the power cord conncetions, and between your fuse, if your still having the same issue then you need to replace the battery. Lowance units will power down if the voltage drops too low.

i am getting the unit to turn on sometimes and sometimes it gets to loading page and shuts down. when i get it to work the lakemaster map doesn't work. i have good power to all points and cleaned the ports. any other suggestions?

on another note took unit to fish electronics in brooklyn park the guy took the unit in back came back 5 min later and told me he did a hard reset (without asking me and erased all my waypoints.) and said it was working fine. the best part is he wanted to charge me 6 bucks to hit three buttons. as u can imagine i was none too happy. has anyone had the same problem (with the unit that is and have fisxed it with a sofware upgrade. any suggestions would be appreciated.

The only thing that I would suggest is that I would backup all of my waypoints so if it would ever happen again you could just do a hard reset and then reload your waypoints. The thing is a little computer of sorts and those type of things happen every now and then. It may never happen again and it might happen next week- Who knows

A software upgrade may help OR start a new rash of problems but I would wait to see if it happens again before I would get to concerned.

If it will not read you Lakemaster chip you might just have a bent contact that is not making a full connection or the chip could be bad. In my H2O I have to fold a piece of paper and stick it under the chip in order to keep good contact or it will not see the chip.

This is from the Lowrance software update site:

LCX-112C Update Version 2.5.0

Warning: This update addresses issues some customers have reported with their digital depth reading flashing or the sonar chart stopping scrolling, typically in very shallow water with thick weed coverage.

Have you updated to this version and/or is this sound like your problem ?

Are you running on this version ?

Have the same unit.

Questions for you;

You have 3 seperate problems?

1.Freezing up while still running?

Could be from the transducer wire being affected by some vibration or sound from some other wiring. Move it and get it as far away from every other wire as you can. Had a probelm with mine and ran it on the outside of the gun wall and away from everything else reads very well and no more freeze up. Real shallow water can do it but only for brief periods.

I have my power wire wired to the battery with fuses in line of course but not run through a fuse pannel on the dash or that has anything else hooked up to it that could cause even a hint of interference. I did at one time but it didn't read as well as it was capable of. Now it does.

2.Not reading your chip?

Connections all seem good right?

Did it not read it before the guy cleared all your way points? That was sure helpful of him. Man I can't imagine how ticked I would have been.

I have a Navionics chip in mine and I have to be in the right region in the system to get it to read the area lakes I'm fishing. Make sure you're system is not back on a default setting and is using the chip through the menu windows. You might have to reset that. All 3 problems could be tied into interference issues and a power wire connection problem that would be my guess right now.

3.Shutting down?

The unit has two fuses to it. For some reason and have re wired the thing and re checked and re checked everything. A hint of a poor concection on mine and it shuts down. I have whittled it down to the fuse connections as being the source of the issue on my unit. Have tried everything. Everything I've tried helped a little but still does it to me once in a great while. Love the unit and will put up with a little hickup like that.

The unit will still draw power even when off so I've got a connection that I unhook after a day on the water back by the battery.

Hope it helps! Is very frusterating when a spending unit like that doesn't work properly. Rmemeber though that thing is not like a couple hundered dollar unit. It's like a highly tunned sports car that needs a little extra TLC to keep it running at it's highest level. I've spent a lot of time talking to guys and pushing buttons on mine with my 16 year old who just got back from California for a national computer competion so I've got a little help.

Do the up dates if you can from Lowrance. I down loaded a manual and printed it and carry it in the boat with me so when things come up I have a reference source.

They are great units just give it some time and tweeking.

Did you buy your unit new and is it still under warranty?

Just a thought here, if it is still under warranty (not sure kind of doubt it) but if it was if they'd fix it you could buy a HDS5 for $699 a bit over the $611 and put that on the bow of the boat if you do much fishing from the front of the boat and you'd have 2 for the price of one. The HDS 10 is an awsome unit and have heard they've worked out a lot of the early model gliches. Remember that I'm guessing the $611 is with out the down scan LSS-1 module which cost's another $600 to make the structure scan work.

Have been told and done some looking and pricing of those older Lcx units and they have held their value very well. I bought mine used off the bay of e's for $1500 over 3 years ago. Have been told I could get $1,200 for it which surprises me considering I could get a HDS 5 with the structure scan module for $1,300. But I love the big screen and have been battling the urge to upgrade this whole spring.

$611 and getting rid of a problem is still a great deal I'd do that in a heart beat after all the problems with the unit you've had plus getting a HDS 10 with structure scan capablilities way cool!

Another thought barter with them and see if they'd fix the unit and go with a HDS unit for a similar price. Never hurts to beg and plead after having a bad experience with something. I had an older GPS of theirs and was having a few minor problems with it that they couldn't get ironed out after 1 try they downloaded all my way points into a new none scratched up unit and sent it to me free of charge. I've had nothing but good results dealing with their tech guys and customer service and would hands down give them the benefit of the doubt with just about anything. I've heard some haven't been so lucky but they've never burned me and I've owned a fair amount of their products with little issue other than operator error.

Good luck with it.

i see what u are saying but they tried to replace the unit with a 112c for 600 bucks which probably is a refurbished one and not new beacuse they obviously dont make that unit anymore. the upgrade to me was worth it all brand new warranty. I already have a front one that i use aswell. to sell mine and do the upgrade is still more than 600 bucks and more hassel. i rarely fish from from of my boat i am a tiller guy and want the big screen that i can see from anywhere in the boat.
