200yd muzzleloader load

Recommended Posts

Last fall I purchased a TC encore endeavor. I enjoy shooting the gun and can get 3-4 inch groups at 100yards after some practice. I am shooting 250 grain shockwave sabots with 100 grains of powder pellets.

I tried using 150grains of pellets at 100 yards once to see what it would do. By the dust cloud behind the target it seemed to shoot high and to the right. I am told the extra powder makes you lose accuracy. I have not tried the 200 yard shot yet. I don't want to waste too many bullets, and time while not understanding what is going on.

My question is with a heavier powder charge, should you up the bullet grain into the 300-400> grain to retain your accuracy? Or should I accept the drop in trajectory and calculate this into my shot with the lighter load. This is becoming a hands on education in ballistics. Any information will be appreciated.

I was told by a oldtimer blackpowder shooter that the extra powder is just that and all it does is make extra smoke at the end of the barrel.

I have tried 150 grains thur mine and dont get very good grouping thru mine at all I think the best I have found is 90 grains pyro and 250 grain shockwave but I shoot 100 grains pyro pellets for ease and have great results with this also.

Each gun is different when it comes to blackpowder and if you want the best possible accuracy you should try variuos loads of powders and bullets to find what your gun is most accurate with.

I shoot 150 grains of tripple 7 and a 250 grain hornady, last year I shot 3 inch groups at 150 yards and killed a buck at 130 yards and a doe at 180. With this combination I sight in 3 inches high at 50 yards and puts me dead on at 150 yards.

I shoot TC Pro Hunter 250 Grain EZ Slide with 150 grains of Triple 7 Powder. 50 yards is exactly same at 100 yards which took me a half day and way too much money to figure out. I tried 100 grains and I had a lot of issues with mine not grouping. Seems stupid but the one extra pellet makes a day and night difference atleast with my gun.
