2010 Pike Opener

Recommended Posts

Weather isn't changing anything for me as I don't have too many options. I'm canoe-bound and have had my lake picked out for the past week or so laugh

I'm going to be throwing soft plastics, soft plastics, and more soft plastics, all homemade and customized. Swimbaits, jerkbaits, creatures, and a couple others are all part of the tackle box.

I might give an inline spinner or dardevle some time if I end up getting too much of a reaction from the bass.

X-Rap 10's casted with a lot of pauses. I usually don't throw spinner baits until June, but we are 2-3 weeks early with weather here. I'll also do some trolling at dawn and dusk.

Same East-Central MN lake for opener trolling red and white daredevil with copper back - most productive $3 lure in my tackle box. I've literally caught hundreds of northerns (10+ years of use) with this lure using Fireline. The paint is about 1/2 gone and it will be a sad day when I lose/retire this lure.

Weather good, bad or ugly, I have went to the same lake for over 45 yearsin west-central MN. With the water temp at over 60 degrees this year, I will start out casting, 5in. Swim Baits – Storm & Northland also X Raps till my back aches, then troll spinner baits & inline spinners. Then back to throwing again. Always seem to catch bigger fish casting.

Caught a 41 incher on Red lake with a 9 inch Suick(jailbird pattern) on Saturday. Water temp about 57 degrees in about 5 feet of water. I saw a few fish this size caught there over the weekend.
