old state record

I heard once a story of a flathead from M river by henderson MN that was 100+ lbs

it was the record for a while but dropped cause it was speared, or something.

Seeing as our record in 70 lbs it sounds far fetched, can any one shed some light on it, just curious.

i can only imagine some of the fish that use to be caught back 100+ years before there were record books, the black and white pics you see if giant fish caught and cooked up that night never measured or weighed

It would be great if it was true, but I unfortunately busted this tale.

I heard the same thing. Except not specifically from Henderson, it was trot lined and weighed around 125 pounds. Caught in the 20's and couldn't be a record since it was not caught on rod and reel. Who knows if it's true. Could be, couldn't be. I'm sure 100+ pounders were pulled out of here and the folks back then just didn't realize what they had. Kind of like the monster sturgeon that were killed for their eggs. Such is life though ... we're doing our fair share of environmental carnage in this generation ... that much is true!

Both the flat & channel state records have a cloud of question surrounding them. More so for the channel side. If I recall Steve D is as close to an expect with the findings/information surrounding our current state record catfish and the stories behind them.

4WE did research this particular happening a couple years back and found that it was most likely not true and more of hearsay from hearsay type facts. grin

I think if we (at HSO) could get more lines being used down my Lacrosse, we could start seeing fish near the state record mark (+/- 5lbs). Up here I am excited to hear of any fish pushing the 60lb mark....
